WHY SWAMPS?
They are a mainstay of wildness and a place of life for many completely unique and endangered species! Wetlands are extremely efficient at storing carbon dioxide and preventing flooding. They are one of the most important reservoirs of fresh water on our planet. But in Poland, almost 90% of swamps have been drained… As a result, over 30 million tons of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere each year, which accounts for approximately 10% of the total reported greenhouse gas emissions by Poland. Globally, the destruction of swamps, peatlands and tropical forests contributes to 13% of total human CO2 emissions and will exacerbate the effects of climate change!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?
"This is a large amount, enough to buy and rewet a few hectares of peat bogs. We are now looking for the spots where the ecological effects would be greatest. There are areas where the purchase and hydrological repair of a few hectares in a strategic place allows to effectively protect a much larger region, not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions but also protecting the populations of endangered species. The most important thing is that thanks to the buyout, we will be able to guarantee the durability of the protection of these areas - we want them to be given back to nature forever. We’re donating 100% of raised 43 000 EUR to Wetland Conservation Centre so that they can protect wild, pristine wetlands and ensure that they are left to nature, and to buy drained areas that were once swamps, to rewet them and restore their amazing abilities!
